Description

Nowata Public Schools is seeking a passionate special education paraprofessional to join our leadership team. The paraprofessional will work collaboratively with the principal, teachers, staff, students, and families to promote a positive school culture, provide effective student support services, and ensure the overall success and well-being of our students.

Job Summary:
The Special Education Paraprofessional works under the direction of special education teachers to provide support and assistance to students with special needs in educational settings. The aide helps implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and provides personalized assistance to students to help them succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

Responsibilities:
1. Support Classroom Activities: Assist special education teachers in planning and implementing lessons and activities tailored to the needs of individual students with disabilities.

2.Provide Individualized Support: Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to provide additional instruction, support, and reinforcement of learning concepts.

3.Assist with Student Accommodations: Help implement accommodations and modifications outlined in students' IEPs to ensure they can access the curriculum and participate fully in classroom activities.

4.Behavioral Support: Assist in managing and addressing behavioral challenges by implementing strategies outlined in behavior plans and providing positive behavior support.

5.Assistive Technology: Support students in using assistive technology devices or software to enhance their learning experience and accessibility.

6.Personal Care Assistance: Provide assistance with personal care tasks, such as toileting, feeding, and mobility, as needed for students with physical disabilities.

7.Communication with Team Members: Maintain open communication with special education teachers, other school staff, and parents/guardians to share information about student progress, concerns, and needs.

8.Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior, and participation in accordance with school and district policies.

9.Safety and Supervision: Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times, including during transitions between activities and while on school premises.

Required Qualifications 1. High school diploma or equivalent (Some positions may require additional education or coursework in special education or related fields).

2. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

3. Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support students with special needs.

Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team.

4. Willingness to learn and implement strategies for supporting diverse learners.

5. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
