Job Description
Summary/objective
The Deputy Superintendent serves as the acting chief administrator at the request of or in the absence of the Superintendent. This role is responsible for the administrative supervision of departments and personnel across all GPTC campuses. The Deputy Superintendent provides direct support to the Superintendent by assisting in the leadership, direction, and management of the school district, ensuring the district's academic programs, administrative operations, and staff development meet the highest standards of quality. The Deputy Superintendent will collaborate with district leaders, staff, and community stakeholders to promote student achievement, enhance operational efficiency, and advance the district’s goals. Additionally, the role includes providing guidance on educational policies, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, enhancing community and industry partnerships, and ensuring the institution remains responsive to local workforce demands and educational trends.
Essential functions
• Perform the role of the Superintendent as requested and required
• Act as lead administrator in school planning and school improvement
• Oversee execution and implementation of the Policy and Procedures manual
• Provide guidance to staff on legal matters affecting school programs
• Oversight of interpretation and application of labor laws and regulations to school operations in cooperation with the Director of Finance and Director of Human Resources
• Act as Student Appeals Committee Chair
• Ensure compliance with State Board policies and State Department reporting requirements
• Oversee the submission of student data for enrollment, completion status, and follow-up
• Assist in financial planning and budget development
• Maintain connections with local and state elected officials and assist in legislative matters
• Serve as liaison with Partner School Superintendents
• Determine relevance in awarding additional compensation for staff obtaining a degree or certification
• Approve leave, develop and monitor budget(s), recruit, interview and present faculty and staff employment recommendations to the Superintendent

This includes staying informed on evolving accreditation criteria, preparing and submitting all necessary documentation, and coordinating internal processes to ensure ongoing accreditation status. Collaborate with faculty and administration to implement continuous improvement initiatives. Commitment to ensuring that the institution meets all regulatory and educational standards to maintain program integrity is essential.

Strength in securing grants, funding, and industry partnerships to expand educational opportunities. Capacity to implement policies and procedures that ensure operational efficiency and sustainability.

Strength in implementing change initiatives that modernize programs and infrastructure. Skill in resolving conflicts and making tough decisions that balance multiple stakeholder needs.

Work environment
The Deputy Superintendent typically works in an office environment, but the mission of the school may require work in the business and industry community and other settings. A standard workweek is required. Must be able to work extended hours and additional day/evenings or weekends hours to accommodate position responsibilities and activities such as Board meetings, superintendent meetings, and representation of Great Plains at public events.
Physical demands
The Deputy Superintendent role requires the ability to sit for extended periods while also being mobile across school campuses and community events. The position involves lifting and carrying materials up to 25 pounds, as well as using office technology for administrative tasks. Strong verbal, auditory, and analytical skills are essential for effective communication and decision-making. The role also demands the ability to handle high-stress situations and respond effectively to emergencies, crisis situations, and student altercations.
Travel required
Frequent local travel and occasional regional or national travel for professional development, meetings and other activities as assigned is necessary in the Deputy Superintendent role.
