Description

The Middle School Social Studies Teacher is responsible for facilitating student growth in academic, social, and critical thinking skills through the implementation of district-approved curriculum. The teacher will create a dynamic and engaging learning environment that encourages students to understand historical events, geography, economics, and civics while integrating the Oklahoma A+ (OKA+) Schools Model, which emphasizes arts-based approaches, collaboration, and interdisciplinary teaching. This model helps foster a deeper engagement with social studies content by utilizing diverse teaching methods and creative connections across subjects.

Essential Responsibilities:

-Develop and implement a middle school social studies curriculum that aligns with district goals, state standards, and the OKA+ Schools Model.
-Create an interactive, student-centered classroom environment that promotes active engagement, inquiry, and critical thinking around historical, geographical, economic, and civic concepts.
-Integrate arts, project-based learning, and interdisciplinary strategies to make social studies content engaging and relevant to students' lives.
-Design lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles, helping students understand complex social studies concepts through a variety of media and hands-on learning activities.
-Conduct regular formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction to meet individual and group needs.
-Promote the development of responsible citizenship and an understanding of global and local communities through engaging activities and discussions.
-Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance, attendance, and assessments in accordance with district policies and state regulations.
-Establish and maintain effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure student success and encourage family involvement in education.
-Promote a respectful classroom environment that values diversity, inclusion, and collaboration, and sets high standards for student behavior.
-Collaborate with other grade-level and subject-area teachers to evaluate and enhance the curriculum and teaching strategies.
-Select and manage instructional resources, including textbooks, digital tools, and other materials to support student learning.
-Supervise students during non-classroom activities, including field trips, school events, and extracurricular activities related to social studies.
-Administer standardized assessments in alignment with district and state testing protocols.
-Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or district administration.

Preferred Qualifications -Strong knowledge of social studies pedagogy, including history, geography, civics, and economics.
-Ability to integrate arts-based learning and interdisciplinary teaching methods in alignment with the OKA+ Schools Model.
-Proficiency in using technology and multimedia to enhance social studies instruction and student engagement.
-Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of a diverse student population, including those with special learning needs.
-Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
-Commitment to continuous professional growth, reflection, and implementation of best practices.
-Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
