Description

JOB GOAL: The counselor promotes student success, provides preventive services, and responds to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive developmental school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for middle school students.

Responsible to the Executive Director of Strategic Planning or her designee, but under the direct supervision of the building principal.
Must clearly understand and adhere to the School Counselor Code of Ethics and Oklahoma Accreditation Standard VI.
Enroll students, using knowledge of learning abilities and adolescent development, while preparing them for academic success and developing an appreciation for lifelong learning.
Facilitate in course and subject selection in relationship to their ability and quality of school achievement while setting academic and career goals.
Serve as Liaison between parents and school personnel and services.
Understand and communicate how to successfully plan, prepare for and enter postsecondary education and/or employment by forming tentative career goals and implement strategies to achieve them.
Guide students using data based decision processes in their participation in school and community activities.
Expand study and test-taking skill opportunities for state and national tests for all students.
Work with students to learn and practice skills and techniques for decision-making and problem-solving in school and in the community that support positive health and safety choices.
Demonstrate, examine and analyze how interpersonal communication affects relationships with peers and adults.
Serves as member of the school's Counselor Advisory Committee which creates and maintains annual documentation of school counseling services.
Construct a specific school program and prepare a clearly articulated school counseling program with supporting documentation.
Implement the Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program with special emphasis on increasing the graduation rate, decreasing the dropout rate, and increasing enrollment in postsecondary options.
Working knowledge of how to implement supplemental services and grant management guideline.
Willingness to be accountable for tangible results regarding student's academic success.
Networking skills to work with, gather, and connect students to resources in the community.
Demonstrate ability to maintain quality communication with multiple audiences (teachers, administrators, students, parents, central office staff, articulation area personnel, two-year and four-year college representatives, career and technical educators and administrators, state education leaders.
Other duties as may be assigned.

If you accept the job offer, an appointment will be set up for you to complete some paperwork for your personnel file and payroll office. Please bring your driver's license and social security card.
