Description

Tecumseh Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Trauma-Informed
Elementary Classroom Teacher to lead a specialized program focused on building emotional
regulation strategies, teaching coping skills, and helping young students understand the brain’s
role in behavior. This position will also involve supervising paraprofessionals who assist with
implementing the program. The ideal candidate will create a nurturing and healing-centered
classroom environment where students can thrive academically and emotionally, while gaining
the skills they need to succeed in school and life.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Valid teaching credential for elementary education
- Professional development or certification in trauma-informed practices, restorative
justice, and Neurosequential Model of Education is highly preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with elementary-aged students, especially in
environments requiring behavior management or emotional support
Preferred Qualifications ● Strong understanding of trauma and its impact on the brain, learning, and behavior in
young children
● Ability to simplify complex concepts (like brain anatomy) for elementary students in an
engaging and developmentally appropriate manner
● Excellent classroom management skills, with a focus on positive reinforcement and
non-punitive strategies
● Passion for helping children build resilience, self-regulation, and coping skills
● Experience supervising and mentoring paraprofessionals or support staff
● A collaborative mindset and a commitment to building a strong school community
