Position: Director of Transportation
Supervisor: Assistant Superintendent of Operations
Employment Terms: 213 Day Contract + 10 days
FLSA Qualification: Non-Exempt
General Job Description: Supervise the functions and activities of the Transportation Department, providing leadership, management, and a strategic vision to ensure effective, accurate, and efficient transportation services to meet the needs of all students and Pryor Public Schools.
Qualifications: Must have a Commercial Driver’s License with School Bus, Passenger and Air Brake endorsement or willing to get a CDL.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Ensures each driver:
a. Completes four hours of annual in-service training
b. Has a current physical on file and documentation is in the Department of Education Website
c. Has completed a drug/alcohol test upon hire
d. Is enrolled in the district random drug/alcohol testing program
e. Is registered with the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse
2. Recruit, train, and supervise all related transportation personnel, and make recommendations on their employment, transfer, promotion, or release.
3. Advise Superintendent on road hazards on school closing during inclement weather
4. Cooperate with school Principals, Athletic Director, and others responsible for planning school-sponsored events
5. Develop and administer transportation and safety programs to meet all the requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities
6. Learn and effectively use the routing software in order to supervise the preparation and deployment of all bus routes and schedules
7. Attend appropriate committee and staff meetings
8. Authorize purchases in accordance with budgetary limitations and supervise appropriate accounting procedures
9. Supervise the maintenance of all district-owned equipment and vehicles and maintain a program of preventive maintenance
10. Keeps records for preparation of state and local reports such as inventories, pupils transported, route mileage, time records, special trip records, traffic accidents, and other required reports
11. Conducts annual orientation, including health, safety, and training for bus drivers
12. Acts as liaison with Principals, Administrators, and parents regarding complaints, special requests, and school bus discipline
13. Assign substitute drivers to routes and assign substitute buses to routes when needed.
14. Oversees coordination of Northeast Technology and Rogers State University transportation of area students
15. Annually review areas of responsibility to develop recommendations for future needs of equipment and personnel
16. Drives a school bus as needed
17. Perform all other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities: Manage Lead Bus Mechanic who manages the Assistant Bus Mechanic. Manages all route bus drivers. Responsible for assisting with the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Job responsibilities may include both inside and outside duties. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision. After hour work may be required. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.

Regular Requirements: Stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; twist at the neck and trunk; bend at the waist; stoop, kneel, crouch; lift/move up to 30 pounds; handle objects and tools with hands; repetitive use of finger and hands.
Occasional Requirements: Reach with hands and arms overhead above shoulder and horizontally; lift/ move up to 50 pounds.
Visual Requirements: Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.
Hearing/Speaking: Adequate to exchange information.
