Job Objectives:  Serve as liaison between parents and school personnel
 
Minimum Qualifications:  To effectively work with staff members to counselor students.
Skills and Abilities Required: 
 Hold a valid Oklahoma Secondary Counselors certificate
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Clearly understands and adheres to the School Counselor Code of Ethics and Oklahoma Accreditation Standard VI.
Enroll students, using knowledge of learning abilities and adolescent development, while preparing them for academic success and developing an appreciation for lifelong learning.
Facilitate in course and subject selection in relationship to their ability and quality of school achievement while setting academic and career goals.
Serves as liaison between parents and school personnel and services.
Understands and communicates how to successfully plan, prepare for and enter post-secondary education and/or employment by forming tentative career goals and implement strategies to achieve them.
Guides students in their participation in school and community activities.
Expand study and test-taking skill opportunities for state and nationaltests for all students.
Works with students to learn and practice skills and techniques for decision-making and problem-solving in school and in the community that support positive health and safety choices.
Demonstrate, examine and analyze how interpersonal communication affects relationships with peers and adults.
Serves as member of the school’s Counselor Advisory Committee which creates and maintains annual documentation of school counseling services.
Constructs a specific school program and prepares a clearly articulated school counseling program with supporting documentation.
Other duties as may be assigned.
EMPLOYMENT TYPE:  FULL-TIME, PERMANENT

Required Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Education:
Must hold a valid Oklahoma Secondary Counselors certificate effective July 1, 2022.
Master’s degree in school counseling or related field; i.e., social work, or clinical counseling.
Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.:

Versed in psychological and sociological theory and practice as it relates to secondary school students
Working knowledge of School Counselor Code of Ethics
Working knowledge of the Oklahoma Accreditation Standard VI
Working knowledge of families as necessary support systems for student success


Experience:

Prefer 2 years teaching experience, but not mandatory.

Ability to work effectively as a team member
Willingness to conduct regular home visits
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Good technology skills
Excellent facilitation skills
Ability to plan and conduct professional development activities for school staff and counselors throughout the district
