The Director of Teaching and Learning will provide leadership and direction for the District as it pertains to teaching strategies and student learning. This individual will be on the District’s Academic Team and in this role the T&L Director will ensure that student learning through the lens of equity drives the District direction and aligns with the vision of the District. The successful candidate will be thought partners for all departments, knowing that the needs and actions of the T&L department must seamlessly align with the district as a whole.
Our District:
The Snohomish School District, the 19th largest district in Washington State, serves approximately 10,000 students in grades K through 12. The district consists of two high schools, two middle schools, ten elementary schools, a preschool, an alternative learning program for secondary students, and a cooperative program for home-school families.  Our community is known for coming together to support education and our students. Salary: $149,865 to $159,383 (2021-22 salary schedule and dependent upon placement)

Education and Experience:
Masters or Doctorate in education or related field
Possess a Washington State Administrator’s Certificate
Minimum of five years of instructional experience preferred
Minimum of five years of successful administrative experience at school and district level preferred
Building administration experience or Central Office administrative experience preferred
Experience and/or training with cultural, social class, ethnic, and language diversity preferred
Experience and/or training in culturally responsive teaching, trauma-informed practices, MTSS and PBIS preferred

Position Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Work one-on-one with principals as partners to grow their instructional leadership capacity through differentiated support as aligned to the Leadership Framework
Assist the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning in ensuring developing instructional leadership and practice that includes purposeful leadership, guaranteed aligned curriculum, assessment, and develop multi-tiered systems of support
Serve as a key member of the district Academic and Learning team which coordinates district work in K-12 curriculum, instruction, assessment, special education, categorical programs and professional development.
Support principal professional learning communities focused on principals’ growth as instructional leaders
Model effective practices as one means of building principal capacity; provide transparent, meaningful, and on-going feedback to principals through frequent formal and informal structures
Ensure principals understand student learning data and how to use it to improve practice, strategies and results
Support the development of assessments aligned to the curriculum
Work with and support curriculum specialists so effective instructional strategies are appropriately integrated into all committee work, projects, and products.
Assist Principals to build capacity of their Assistant Principals to prepare them to become instructional leaders based on the AWSP Leadership Framework
Develop tools, processes and systems to assist principals in school-wide efforts
Support or assist schools in implementing curriculum, assessment, intervention and acceleration strategies
Assist principals in identifying student learning/achievement goals that align to school need and district vision, including their SIP (School Improvement Plan) and State Improvement Plan
Assist principals with interpreting relevant federal and state laws as they relate to school issues
Assist principals in staffing, scheduling and budgeting as needed
Support principals in connecting with other Central Office departments to respond to operational and other needs
Work with specialists, principals, and Human Resources in on-boarding new teachers
Collaborate with district teachers, principals and departments to plan district-wide professional development priorities
Facilitate district level committees, workgroups and administrative collaboration
Plan the development of district-wide assessment systems and oversees the management of assessments
Support the professional development of specialists in Teaching and Learning Services
Collaborate with Technology Services in the use of technology tools to support Teaching & Learning priorities
Collaborate with Special Services to seamlessly integrate learning initiatives for all special populations
Manage, direct and leverage all categorical programs, such as Title I, LAP, Hi-Cap, MLL, for the benefit of student learning as they align with the direction and vision of the district
Facilitate and support program planning and budget development
Other duties as directed for the success of our students and support of the District
