Qualifications:

Administrative certification from state
Master’s degree and required hours in school administration
Three to five years teaching as well as leadership and management experience

Reports to: Superintendent

Job Goal: Performs administrative duties under minimal supervision to plan, implement, and administer a comprehensive educational program for all students in the school. Provide a positive climate for teachers and staff to enable them to provide the maximum educational benefits to all students.

Essential Job Functions

Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school; provides pleasant, safe, and orderly climate.
Leads in the development, determination of appropriateness, and monitoring of the instructional program. Oversees curriculum and instructional development; develops goals; prepares the site accreditation.
Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of the school’s professional staff; sets high expectations for staff.
Conducts staff meetings as necessary.
Oversees all operations of the building office. Submits activity calendar of events to Central Office; Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes.
Supervises students before, during, and after school as needed. Monitors and refines building discipline plan.
Prepares and administers the school budget and supervises school finances. Monitors the allocation and distribution of various funds; provides needed resources for staff.
Assumes full responsibility for the maintenance of all required records and reports.
Orients newly-assigned staff members and assists in their development as appropriate.
Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school site. Monitors safety and condition of building and grounds. Monitors bus safety and traffic flow.
Establishes and maintains regular communication with parents and the community. Maintain ongoing communication to students, parents, and staff through bulletins, announcements, newsletters, meetings, etc.
Observes teachers in the classroom and evaluates staff as defined by the district; evaluates support staff as appropriate.
Participates in professional growth and approves professional leave for staff.
Develops a master schedule for the building. Establishes duty schedules for the supervision of students during recess, lunch, and before/after school.
Develops annual duty rosters.
Analyzes student test scores and provides data to work toward improvement in academic performance.
Performs other duties as assigned by the superintendent.

Supervision exercised:

Supervises a large staff including faculty, support staff, and administration. Has formal responsibility to evaluate employees. Makes formal written recommendations regarding employment status of employees. Has formal responsibility or authority to discipline all site employees under principal’s supervision.

Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions:

In a typical workday, employee must be able to sit, stand, and walk for eight hours. Job requires occasional bending/stooping, squatting/crouching, crawling/kneeling, reaching above the shoulder and pushing/pulling. Job requires frequent carrying/lifting up to ten pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds to move tables and boxes of written materials/texts.

Job requires employee to use both hands for repetitive actions involving simple/firm grasping and fine manipulation. Employee must possess manual dexterity and visual ability to read, write, type, operate a computer, and to supervise students.

Employee must possess hearing and speaking abilities to communicate in person and on the phone both individually and with groups of students, staff, parents, and community members. Employee must have mobility enough to monitor all areas of the building and grounds and attend meetings outside of the building. Employee must have mental ability to communicate with and supervise teachers, manage a school site, think critically, and make important decisions under stress.

Job requires working outdoors, at times, under various temperatures to supervise at athletic events, monitor students on the playground, and other outdoor activities. Job requires risk of exposure to dust, fumes, gases, and exposure to ill or violent students.
