Speech/Language Pathologist
Job Description
Qualification: As set by State Certification
Reports To: Special Education Director
Job Role: The Speech/Language Pathologist develops, directs, and implements a communication disorders program as the primary service provider within the guidelines of the employment setting, job description, and in compliance with federal and state regulations controlling speech and language services.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Follows due process procedures set forth by Federal and State of Arkansas IDEA Rules and
Regulations and any procedures set forth by El Dorado Public Schools LEA for evaluation and placement into the related service area of speech/language therapy. This involves the following:
• Initiate referral of students suspected of having an impairment.
• When appropriate, be a part of the referral team
• Select appropriate diagnostic tools
• Conduct complete speech/language evaluation
• Write evaluation reports summarizing evaluation results
• Schedule evaluation conferences
• Chair evaluation conferences with parents, teacher, counselors, principals and other relevant committee members that have knowledge of student
• Develop/write a draft/final individualized Education Plan for the student.
• Scheduled appropriate therapy sessions with the teacher
• Initiate therapy
• Hold annual review conferences, failing grade conference, separate programming conferences
2. Identifies and describes speech and language disabilities through diagnostic evaluation, interpretation and report writing.
3. Plans instructional programs, goals and objectives as part of the evaluation/programming committee.
4. Assesses student progress in IEP goals.
5. Takes complete responsibility for instruction of new concepts, skills and each new therapeutic activity.
6. Revises instructional programs.
7. Designs instructional materials.
8. Communicates with parents.
9. Attends inservice trainings for professionals.
10. Is responsible for confidentiality of all records and school related matters.
11. Develops and maintains schedules for service delivery within guidelines and according to needs specified on student IEP’s.
12. Works with appropriate school personnel to protect child rights through due procedures.
13. Assumes primary responsibility for informing LEA of needed equipment and supplies necessary to provide appropriate therapy.
14. Provides inservice education and serves as a consultant to teacher and school staff members on topics concerning speech therapy.
15. Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student’s daily activities.
