CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision and in accordance with federal and state laws, rules and regulations of the State Board of Education, serve as a licensed mental health professional providing direct counseling services to students at one LPS high school. Assist in the development and implementation of Lawton Public School’s therapeutic services referral pathway,  make recommendations for change; and perform related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a minimum of a master’s degree in counseling, school psychology, or a closely related field [official transcript(s) required].
LPC, LCSW, LMFT or LADC licensure, candidates under supervision will be considered.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

Thorough knowledge of state and federal school laws, rules and regulations and NPS policy and procedure;
Considerable knowledge of solutions focused therapy and motivational interviewing strategies and modalities;
Strong communication and organizational skills;
Ability to build therapeutic rapport with students and families quickly;
Knowledge in best practice for therapeutic group counseling interventions;
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with fellow employees, school officials and the general public;
Ability to express facts and opinions clearly and concisely;
Commitment to teamwork, consensus management and participatory decision-making processes; commitment and willingness to provide courteous, consistent, efficient service through the performance of the prescribed job duties;
Ability to maintain clear and concise therapeutic notes and records;
Considerable knowledge of HIPPA, FERPA and the PPRA (Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment;
Considerable knowledge in best practices for the assessment of student mental health needs.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Consult with the other Lawton Public Schools LMHP to ensure equitable access to mental health services for identified students and;
Conduct small group counseling sessions with identified students;
Maintain a caseload of students requiring therapeutic services;
Maintain regular communication, consult and plan with the Director of Counseling and Prevention Coordinator;
Coordinate referral services for students requiring further assistance beyond school-based brief strategic  therapy with local mental health providers;
Collaborate with site level multidisciplinary teams to identify students in need of increased mental health services and monitor response to services and outcomes;
TRAVEL:  Less than 10% travel.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  General office setting and in elementary and secondary schools
