Job Description

Summary/objective
The Director of Information Technology is responsible for the planning, budgeting, and supporting technology for Great Plains’ Lawton Campus and Tillman/Kiowa Campus. The Director advises the Superintendent on all matters related to Information Technology and provides long range planning for the future technology needs of the school district.

Essential functions
· Accountable for establishing the enterprise vision, strategy, and programs to protect people, information assets, and technologies
· Design and implement a technology plan for local and wide-area networks, telephone
communications, video surveillance, distance education, and security systems
· Daily operations of the IT security program, oversight of the annual and ongoing risk assessment process, development, implementation, and maintenance of policies and procedures, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity and access of electronic protected student information, monitoring program compliance as well as investigation and tracking of incidents and breaches
· Supervise installation, operation and maintenance of network and end-user hardware and software
· Implement and monitor network security
· Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations and planning
· Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations, and determine hardware and software requirements related to such changes
· Oversee purchasing of network and end-user hardware and software
· Maintain logs related to network functions, as well as maintenance and repair records
· Supervise configuration and maintenance of telephone system
· Oversee implementation of student accounting software, working in partnership with other departments
· Administer district-wide federal E-Rate activities
· Supervise distance learning activities
· Supervise audio/video setup and maintenance
· Coordinate the development and implementation of information security policies and procedures
· Initiates, facilitates, and promotes activities to foster information security awareness within the organization
· Creates a culture of cyber security both with the IT organization and driving behavioral changes for the school
· Evaluates security trends, evolving threats, risks and vulnerabilities and applies tools to mitigate risk as necessary
· Ensure that the disaster recovery, business continuity, risk management and access controls needs
· Ensures the institution/organization complies with the administrative, technical and physical safeguards
· Maintain Intranet
· Maintains awareness of changing IT trends and regulations which might impact the district and takes corrective action as required. Provides appropriate programming within various applications when needed in support of user and district needs.
· Builds and maintains relationships with outside vendors to ensure quality service is performed as needed for the district.
· Manage direct reports to maximize the productivity, efficiency and the potential of the staff, including: directing job assignments, monitoring staff performance, coaching, counseling, training, assuring compliance with regulatory requirements and school mission, values, policies and work rules. Ensures all personnel are appropriately trained in the usage of all IT products and services in order to effectively carry out their job responsibilities. Appraises performance and provides recommendations for staff promotion and termination actions, and hiring as appropriate.

Educational Technology Integration: Ability to understand and integrate technology into the educational environment effectively. This includes selecting appropriate tools, managing digital resources, and supporting teaching staff in using technology for enhanced learning outcomes.
Infrastructure Management: Expertise in managing IT infrastructure, including networks, servers and hardware. This involves ensuring reliable connectivity, cybersecurity, and efficient IT operations across the school's campus or campuses.
Data Management and Security: Proficiency in managing data systems and ensuring the security and privacy of sensitive information. This includes compliance with regulations such as GLBA or CIPA, implementing data protection measures, and disaster recovery planning.
Strategic Planning and Budgeting: Skills in developing IT strategies aligned with the school's educational goals. This involves creating long-term technology plans, forecasting IT needs, and managing IT budgets effectively to maximize resources.
Network Infrastructure Planning and Optimization: Ability to design, implement, and optimize robust network infrastructures. This involves planning network architecture to meet current and future needs, ensuring network security through measures like firewalls and intrusion detection systems, monitoring performance metrics to maintain optimal operation, and developing disaster recovery plans for continuity. Additionally, effective vendor management and procurement skills are essential for acquiring and maintaining suitable network hardware and software solutions within budget constraints, thereby supporting reliable access to educational resources and efficient administrative operations
Team Leadership and Collaboration: Strong leadership abilities to manage an IT team effectively. This includes fostering a collaborative work environment, mentoring staff, and coordinating with other departments or stakeholders to support educational and administrative goals through technology.

Work environment
The Director of Information Technology typically works in an office environment, but the mission of the school may require work in other settings. A standard workweek is required but this position may also frequently require evening or weekend hours. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Travel required
Travel to and from other campuses and buildings occasionally requires exposure to outside elements. Occasional travel within and outside of the Great Plains Technology Center district may be required for sponsorship of student activities, professional development, and participation in other Great Plains Technology Center activities.

Required Qualifications Required education and experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field
· Minimum of 7 years IT work experience with 3 years at network systems administrator level or above
· Minimum of 3 years Industry or Educational supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications Preferred education and experience
· Master’s degree in related field
· Oklahoma Teaching or Administration certification and experience in education
· Industry recognized certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or ITIL
