Teacher Assistant
Position Summary:
Provides support to the instructional program within an assigned classroom with specific responsibility for working with individual and/or small groups of students. Provides clerical support to teacher(s) and staff.
Essential Duties:
Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials (e.g. art projects, computer, language skills, etc.) for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom goals and objectives.
Administers classroom assignments for the purpose of supporting teachers in the instructional process.
Assists Teacher in redirecting students to help students stay on task
Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments (e.g. read stories, providing writing assistance, reinforce language skills, numbers, alphabet, computer learning programs, etc.) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.
Communicates with teachers for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing
classroom objectives.
Maintains classroom equipment, work area, and manual and electronic files and records (e.g. clean tables, sign-in/sign-out logs, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; providing a safe learning environment; and/or meeting mandated requirements.
Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
Performs general clerical tasks (e.g. laminating, making posters, making copies, bulletin boards, filing, newsletters, etc.) for the purpose of helping the teacher get instructional materials ready.
Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, appropriate and/or inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
Prepares and maintains accurate records.
May assist with personal care, wiping nose or drool, hand washing and body care.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):
High School Diploma or GED required
Ability to operate standard office equipment including basic computer software applications.
Perform basic math; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.
Knowledge of child development stages and learning styles with age appropriate activities.

Job Description
Summary/objective
The Activities Coordinator advises and assists instructors with all aspects of Career Tech Student Organizations (CTSOs), including membership, competitions, event planning and all coordination at the local, regional, state and national level. CTSOs are vital to every student’s experience at Great Plains Technology Center. In addition to leading Great Plains’ student engagement in CTSO’s, the Activities Coordinator plans and coordinates Great Plains’ own, unique Student Leadership Program, community service projects, staff and student special events and Career Summer Camps. The Activities Coordinator plays a major role in shaping the culture and climate at Great Plains for students and employees.
Essential functions
· Coordinate and assist instructors and students in all Career Tech Student Organizations (CTSOs).
· Register students as members, coordinate and assist with competitions at all levels, maintain records, attend CTSO advisor meetings and plan CTSO events with instructors including those with SkillsUSA, BPA, HOSA, FCCLA, and TSA.
· Manage registrations and hotel reservations for all CTSO Leadership Conferences and Competitions.
· Coordinate the Student Leadership Class.
· Coordinate the Leadership Class application and interview process, plan, implement and supervise annual program, and identify service and recognition opportunities for students.
· Coordinate Student Awards and Recognition Programs, including National Career Tech Honor Society and Perfect Attendance.
· Coordinate staff and student special events, including Student Orientation, Student Assemblies, Registration Days, United Way campaign, Student Ambassador selection and training, Open Houses, and other events and activities as assigned.
· Participate in the development of marketing strategies to promote activities and services that maximize student involvement, including identifying and communicating student successes for media/including social media, and school monitor system.
· Assist with employee recognition events and activities, including retirement receptions and August In-Service Awards.
· Assist with marketing/recruitment projects such as Tech-Know Zone, Tech Showcase, , Signing Day, Registration Days, Night of Welcome, and other projects as identified.
· Coordinate the GPTC Merchandise Store to include inventory control and sales.
· Support marketing and communications programs, projects and initiatives as needed

· Computer Skills: Possess intermediate computer skills including proficiency in using office productivity software (e.g., advanced features in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), efficient file and data management, and familiarity with internet and online collaboration tools. These skills involve effective troubleshooting, maintaining software, ensuring data security, and applying digital communication etiquette. Competency also includes basic database use, managing online tools and email.
· Organizational Skills: Ensuring that all records are complete and free from errors. This includes entering data correctly, verifying information, and double-checking entries.
Structuring records in a systematic manner so they can be easily retrieved when needed. This involves using consistent naming conventions, categorizing files, and following a logical filing system and applying the same standards and practices across all tasks and records to maintain uniformity and reliability.

Work environment
The Activities Coordinator typically works in an office environment, but the mission of the school may require work in other settings. A standard workweek is required but this position may also require evening or weekend hours.
Physical demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain stationary, move/position objects 25 pounds and above, move about their office, building and/or across campus, respond to emergency situations and communicate with staff, parents, and students. Employee may be required to perform extensive work at a computer display terminal.
Travel required
Occasional travel within and outside of the Great Plains Technology Center district may be required for sponsorship of student activities, professional development, and participation in other Great Plains Technology Center activities.
Required education and experience
· High school diploma or equivalency
· Teaching, education or youth leadership experience
Preferred education and experience
· Bachelor’s degree
· Experience with student organizations, coordinating projects and events, student leadership development, engagement and CTSOs.
· Career Tech experience
