JOB TITLE: Speech Pathologist
DEPARTMENT: Teaching and Learning
REPORTS TO: Principal
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
CONTRACT STATUS: Full-time/ 180 days / Extra Duty 5%
SALARY SCHEDULE: Certified / Extra Duty
SUMMARY: Prevent, screen, identify, assess and diagnose and provide intervention for students with speech, language and related impairments and disabilities. Speech Pathologists assess the students’ abilities and develop individualized education plans consistent with treatment goals. The speech-language disability must be affecting the student’s educational performance and we develop therapy programs, which integrate the goals into the academic setting. Speech Pathologists are bound by federal mandates (IDEA), state regulations and guidelines, and local policies and procedures. Speech Pathologists are also influenced by ASHA’s code of ethics when making clinical decisions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: These statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to this position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.
Provide aid in prevention of a speech disability through consultation and possible in-service training.
Identify a speech or language disability through pre-referral interventions, and referral process.
Be responsible for vision and hearing screening.
SLP evaluates student by giving a standardized and possible informal assessment.
SLP makes recommendations to the IEP team and if the student qualifies for speech, SLP is responsible for preparing the student’s individual education program in accordance with goals.
Work with other professionals to coordinate programs for therapy purposes.
Provide intervention in an individual pull-out speech session, group session or classroom session.
Keep data documentation of the student’s performance in relation to goals and objectives.
Prepare and give the students’ parents progress reports every 9 weeks.
Re-evaluate goals on an annual basis.
Be responsible for 3-year re-evaluation for speech-language category.
Participate in the post high school transition planning for the student.
Select and requisition needed speech materials and supplies.
Attend various continuing education conferences and in-services.
Assists with special projects.
All other duties as assigned by the administrator.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Master’s Degree
Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate in Speech/Language Pathology
Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC)
CPR and CPI certification preferred
EXTRA DUTY: In addition to the 180-day contract, will work additional hours as necessary on Extra Duty Contract.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Computer literate; excellent written and oral communication ability; strong knowledge of rules, regulations, policies and laws applicable to education and special education. Ability to follow all district policies and procedures. Ability to work independently, displaying initiative and enthusiasm for the tasks being done. Demonstrating strong communication skills, orally and in writing, with faculty, staff, team members, and administrators. Ability to work without supervision, and work as a team player. Ability to document records accurately. Ability to manage confidential information in a manner that respects students, families, and employees. Ability to listen effectively. .
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS: Current driver’s license in good standing.
