Description

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills and competence in basic and complex mathematical principles, equations, formulas and calculations, as well as an understanding of the application of mathematics in the solution of practical problems.

Essential Performance Responsibilities
Develops and administers mathematics curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for subject area, and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
Teaches knowledge and skills in mathematics, including concepts such as real an imaginary numbers, formulas, calculations and geometry, and promotes creative thinking and analysis in all related subject areas.
Designs learning activities to demonstrate the application of mathematics to everyday existence and problem-solving.
Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
Maintains familiarity with district and Oklahoma State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.

Required Qualifications Oklahoma State Certification as a Mathematics Education Teacher.
Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
Preferred Qualifications Masters Degree preferred.
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.

Department: Pauls Valley Special Services/Garvin County Cooperative
Reports to: Site Administrator/Special Education Director
Compensation: State Pay Scale + 12%
Number of Days: 172
Overtime Status: Non-Exempt / Hourly

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at designated times unless appropriate administrator/supervisor has been notified.
Prepares for assigned classes and provides written evidence of preparation that reflects objectives to be achieved.
Participates in the evaluative process for special education placement as required.
Uses state and district standards to guide instruction and focuses on content mastery for all students.
Participates in eligibility, placement and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) team meetings as required.
Maintains a "work" folder for each student when appropriate, to document students' progress.
Provides appropriate educational program for students.
Serves as a consultant to regular classroom teachers for IEP students in regular classrooms.
Cooperates with general education classroom teachers and other staff members in planning instructional goals, objectives and methods to be used with students in special education.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided, materials available and needs and capabilities of the child.
Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Provides documentation of required modifications and accommodations on a timely basis to all general education classroom staff.
Completes all required documentation in a timely manner and according to current local, state and federal guidelines.
Attends and participates in faculty meetings and professional development activities, and serves on committees as required.
Assists in the selection, inventory of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
Completes reports and other school related paperwork as required, within stated timelines.
Accepts responsibility and arrives punctually for activities and duties as assigned.
Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and the parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of assigned students.
Is actively involved in professional growth activities.
Creates an effective classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the developmental levels and interests of students within the limits of the resources of the district.
