Job Description

Summary/objective
The Career Counselor supports high school and adult students with career exploration, academic planning, and workforce readiness. This role involves counseling, coordinating career events, collaborating with schools and partners, and serving as a Crisis Intervention Counselor while maintaining confidentiality and accurate records.

Essential functions
· Provide comprehensive career advisement and planning support for current and prospective high school and adult students, guiding them toward informed academic and professional pathways.
· Conduct in-depth research and systematically disseminate insights on career clusters, labor market trends, post-secondary educational institutions (technical schools and colleges), scholarship opportunities, employment prospects, and career exploration resources.
· Act as a liaison between sending schools, collegiate institutions, community partners, and students, fostering strong collaborative relationships that enhance educational and career development opportunities.
· Facilitate the distribution of information regarding available referral agencies within the GPTC district to support student needs.
· Offer individualized career, academic, and attendance counseling to both high school and adult learners, ensuring personalized guidance tailored to their unique circumstances and aspirations.
· Engage with schools, civic organizations, and community stakeholders to promote awareness of institutional offerings and career pathways.
· Develop, coordinate, and deliver specialized programs, including industry-specific tours, career fairs, job expos, career exploration workshops, social-emotional learning initiatives, and employability skill-building sessions.
· Support recruitment, enrollment, and student retention efforts through compelling presentations, campus tours, and direct engagement with prospective students.
· Maintain expertise in full-time and short-term program curricula, ensuring comprehensive advisement for students and community members seeking educational advancement.
· Serve as a Crisis Intervention Counselor, staying well-versed in all legal, ethical, and procedural guidelines related to crisis intervention for both adult and underage students. Participate in ongoing professional training to enhance crisis response capabilities and collaborate with staff in delivering effective crisis support services.
· Uphold strict confidentiality standards in alignment with moral, legal, and ethical obligations associated with crisis intervention and student counseling.
· Ensure accurate and organized documentation and maintenance of both physical and digital student records, adhering to institutional and regulatory compliance requirements

Collaborates with partner schools to align academic programs with workforce needs and provide seamless transitions between secondary, post-secondary, and technical training programs. Facilitates internships, apprenticeships, mentorships, and dual-enrollment opportunities to bridge the gap between education and employment.

Communication, Listening & Counseling Skills: Effective in building trust and rapport with students through effective verbal and written communication, active listening, empathy, and motivational support. Understands diverse student backgrounds and provides personalized guidance to address barriers to success. Helps students navigate career-related challenges, make informed decisions, and develop resilience in their career journey.

Supervisory responsibilities
None

Work environment
The Career Counselor typically works in an office environment, but the mission of the school may require work in partner schools and other settings. A standard workweek is required but may require evening or weekend hours to accommodate activities such as Board meetings and representation of Great Plains at public events.

Physical demands
The Career Counselor role requires the ability to sit for extended periods while also being mobile across school campuses and community events. The position involves lifting and carrying materials up to 25 pounds, as well as using office technology for administrative tasks. Strong verbal, auditory, and analytical skills are essential for effective communication and decision-making. The role also demands the ability to handle high-stress situations and respond effectively to emergencies, crisis situations, and student altercations.

Travel required
Frequent local travel and occasional regional or national travel for professional development, meetings and other activities as assigned is necessary in the Director of Instruction role.

Required education and experience
· Master’s degree in School Counseling
· Valid Oklahoma secondary school counselor certification

Preferred education and experience
· Minimum of two years of counseling experience at the high school, career tech, and/or adult level
· Knowledge and/or experience with career technology programs

Position Summary: Provides leadership, supervision and support to assigned special education staff as it relates to assessment and evaluation of students and compliance efforts on the part of the Special Education Services department. Administers a seamless system of guidelines, process, and procedures for these services. Provides guidance, leadership, and oversight of all state and federal compliance requirements of such efforts. Administers a seamless system of guidelines, processes, and procedures necessary for these services and support for students and staff districtwide. Ensures all state and federal compliance requirements of such efforts are met throughout the process and align with the district’s vision and mission. The Executive Director of Special Education Evaluation and Compliance advises and supports the Assistant Superintendent of Special Populations, and other leadership, on key issues related to critical cases, district needs/requirements, and student supports necessary to provide best-in-class special education services to students across Tulsa Public Schools.

Required Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Master’s Degree from an accredited university

Experience:

Five (5) years’ experience in program administration and the supervision of professional personnel

Three (3) years’ experience in a special education leadership role

Three (3) years’ experience in leading diverse work teams, program evaluation research methods

Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, Etc.:

Knowledge of Special Education Policy and Procedures

Extensive knowledge and experience with the student referral, evaluation identification process

Experience working with children and youth in a special education setting; experience in an urban school setting and/or in a multicultural education environment preferred

Comprehensive and proficient in theories and principles of learning and evaluation; knowledge of special education principles, theories and laws

Possess or ability to obtain an Oklahoma Teacher Certification (Psychologist, Speech Pathologist, Board Certified Behavior Analyst, or Related Services) and Administrator Certification

Demonstrated knowledge of special education programs

Preferred Qualifications -Previous experience as a school leader or a principal preferred

Position Summary: Manages all instructional services and support programs that are available to students with conditions or identified disabilities as required under Individuals with Disabilities Education Act throughout the school district. Directs and provides leadership for a comprehensive special education program to ensure the district provides appropriate services for students with special needs. Directs leadership in planning and implementing curriculum and instructional improvements for students with disabilities that yield improved student performance. Oversees the family engagement support and services provided ensuring that parents are afforded meaningful participation in their student’s plan for services. Secondary Physical Education Teacher (Grades 6-12)

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' physical skills and abilities, strength, agility, poise, coordination, and teamwork; to develop students' understanding of the importance of exercise to physical and mental well-being; and to motivate students to work towards, physical fitness, hygiene, and good health.

Essential Functions
Develops and administers Physical Education classes consistent with school district goals and objectives.
Teaches knowledge of, and develops skills and abilities in, physical fitness, rhythm and dance, coordination and agility, exercise, and sports,

Develops students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility and social skills; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and appropriate feedback to regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.

Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in physical educational activities, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.

Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Assists in coordinating extra-curricular activities, including student performances, assembles, and athletic events.

Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within physical education and grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.

Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.

Inspects equipment and field areas used to ensure they are in good and safe working order.
