JOB OVERVIEW: Encourages maximum participation of students in Girls’ and Boys’ Swim using the safest and most effective coaching and training methods. Oversees the development and implementation of a comprehensive middle school and high school Girls’ and Boys’ Swim program. Develops a comprehensive Girls’ and Boys’ Swim program that successfully competes with its opponents at the 6A-1 level.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Organizational

Ensures that all aspects of the program comply with the guidelines, rules and policies that have been established by the school district, the state and the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association.
Promotes the program and implements strategies for increasing participation in the program.
Confirms that all participants have received a physical exam and have required parent permission forms completed.
Distributes and collects signed training rules for each participant.
Develops and communicates criteria for selection to appropriate teams (Varsity or Junior Varsity). Selects team members and communicates assignments, roles, and changes in a timely manner.
Formulates and submits team lists and rosters, to the Director of Athletics.
Distributes and posts practice and game schedules.
Assists the Director of Athletics in the development of scrimmages and non-conference game schedules; the determination of transportation times and destinations, and in the completion of requisition forms.
Establishes locker room, training room and office procedures.
Maintains an updated inventory of uniforms, equipment and supplies used within the program.
Assist the Director of Athletics with the program’s annual budget.
Maintains and reports results, statistics, etc., to be provided to the Director of Athletics.
Establishes and announces criteria for awards/recognition.
Coaching

Has a thorough knowledge of the sport and develops daily practice plans and game plans throughout the season, designed to maximize and improve student success in the sport.
Has a thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Enid Board of Education and implements these policies as required.
Meets with parents and players to discuss philosophy of program and the responsibilities of coaches and players.
Attends all practices, games and is present on all modes of transportation. Provides assistance, guidance and supervision of athletes at practices games and during transportation to and from games.
Coordinates with the S & C coach all off-season and conditioning programs for the sport.
Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program.
Works with the district’s athletic trainer to ensure health needs of athletes are met.
Attends conferences, workshops and clinics in order to stay updated on all aspects of the program/sport.
Completes and submits all accident or incident reports in a timely manner.
Displays and encourages sportsmanship. Respects officials and works with team /students to understand the aspects of sportsmanship relating to the rules, teammates, opponents and spectators.
Uses appropriate language at all times.
Represents the school district and the program in a positive manner and serves as a role model for students.
Administrative

Assists in scheduling of games and transportation including tournaments and special sporting events.
Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled facility times. Coordinates his/her program with maintenance, custodial and school employees.
Provides proper safeguards for the maintenance and protection of assigned equipment supplies.
Coordinates and participates in post-season award ceremonies as needed.
Ensures student athletes and sports programs receive recognition and publicity related to their success throughout the year.
Writes letters of reference and assists with recruitment as needed for athletes who wish to compete at the collegiate level.
Assists with discipline-related issues.
Develops a good rapport with parents, patrons, news media, assistances, teachers and administrators.
Works with other staff to assist athletes in maintaining eligibility.
Other duties as assigned-Attends monthly head coaches meetings as assigned by AD.
