SUPERVISES: Student Assistants if applicable
JOB OVERVIEW: Take the lead in maintaining a clean, quiet, learning environment for students to use computers, check out books and conduct research.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Prepare books, periodicals, and media for circulation.
• Consult with site principals to determine the goals and objectives of the library program and to establish principles of operation.
• Plan, schedule, coordinate, oversee, and provide library services independently in accordance with a variety of programs and assignments at assigned schools, supervised by the school principals.
• Notify teachers of newly-arrived books applicable to classroom topics or themes.
• Maintain professional competence through participation in professional growth activities. Attend meetings and District in-services as requested.
• Design an accessible, efficient, and inviting facility for student learning.
• Be able to type all orders, bibliography reports, and class materials needed by the Library Media Specialist.
• Assist in inventory of all materials.
• Purchasing and ordering books for appropriate grade levels
• Assist in inventory of all library materials.
• Prepare displays and bulletin boards.
• Be open to learning any new skills that enhance the learning process provided by the Library Media Center.
• Comply with the request of the supervisor that falls with generally accepted clerical responsibilities.
• Manage student behavior effectively.
• Work effectively with culturally diverse groups.
• Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES KNOWLEDGE OF:
• Library science practices, procedures, and terminology.
• Functions, operations, and maintenance of a middle school library.
• Computerized reference materials and use of technology.
• Library reference materials and sources.
• Dewey Decimal system of classification.
• Record keeping techniques.
• Oral and written communications skills.
• Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
WORK ENVIRONMENT: School Library
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires speaking, hearing, standing, sitting, walking, bending, and lifting of no more than 30 pounds.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
