DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL SERVICES

Job Objectives: The primary purpose or objective of this position is to assist the superintendent in the planning, coordination, and supervision of the district's Special Education programs so as to enhance the morale of school district's personnel, and to promote the overall efficiency of the school system maximizing the educational opportunities available to each student.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Applicants or persons employed in this position must be able to perform the following tasks and functions which are fundamental to the purpose of the position.

Prepare and execute project applications for Federal Special Education funding to include IDEA-B Flow-Through, CSPD, and 99-457 Preschool

Prepare annual district Plan for Special Education.

Coordinate the district's health services program.

Interview and coordinate recommendations regarding applicants, transfers, dismissals and promotions in the area of Special Education.

Supervise the Special Education staff and conduct evaluations for SSC classified personnel, health services personnel, and Special Education Coordinators.

Serve on the Superintendent's management team, finance committee, CDPD Committee, and principals' Special Education Committee.

Maintains adequate records for all students as required by federal, state, or local laws or regulations.

Coordinate district preparedness for district, state and federal Special Education monitoring teams.

Responsible for the development of the SSC budget, requisitioning and inventory of instructional supplies.

Work with all categories of Special Education in the development of preservice, in-service, and staff development activities.

Keep apprised of changes in federal and state states, policies and procedures, and case law concerning students with disabilities.

Attends board of education meetings and prepares such information and reports for the board as the superintendent or assistant superintendent may direct.

Responsible for ordering and dissemination of the dissemination of the district's Special Education textbook.

Holds membership in and attends various school related and non-school related activities and organizations such as District PTA Council, Oklahoma Directors of Special Services and university recruitment events.

Be able to drive a personal vehicle or school vehicle to school sites, activities, and events.

Perform such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the superintendent may direct.

Skills and Abilities Required: Hold a minimum of a Master's degree and a valid Oklahoma School Administrator's certification in Special Education.

Supervisory Responsibility: Applicants or persons employed in this position have a responsibility to supervise the following positions, tasks, or personnel: Supervises all certified and support employees assigned to the Special Services Center. Indirectly supervises all special education personnel.
