Summary/objective

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator coordinates the development and implementation of district marketing and community outreach directives. Works with the Marketing Communications team to conceptualize and develop marketing strategies to effectively promote GPTC products and services. An incumbent in this position will utilize discretion, ingenuity and independent judgement due to the complexity of the job. Establishes and maintains positive relationships with media and community contacts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

*Strengthens relationships by partnering and collaborating with GPTC departments, staff, and community leaders through participation in school or community activities

*Focuses on being a leader within the organization through personal accountability, active problem solving and positive forward thinking

*Focuses on continual improvement to assure quality products and excellent services to our customers and stakeholders

*Works with the director of marketing and communications to maintain a marketing plan promoting programs, services, and image of the school

*Coordinates media relations strategies and is responsible for seeking leads and developing positive media coverage for GPTech throughout the district and State

*Responsible for developing written copy for external and internal marketing, media, and communications strategies
Advises the director, on the public relations consequences of policies, events, and programs

*Supervises the development and production of promotional materials and services, news releases, brochures, newsletters, flyers, displays, etc.

*Places and purchases promotional advertising on behalf of the district

*Works with the director, to determine internal/external communication and marketing strategies

*Works with the director to develop and implement an Emergency Communications Plan

*Evaluates the effectiveness of marketing strategies and makes recommendations for modification

*Provides support and assistance in preparation and implementation of special events

*Manages GPTech’s social media presence

*Assists with the district’s mass notification system, School Messenger

*Develops internal communications strategies and projects

*Represents GPTC in local, state, and/or national civic and professional organizations related to
CareerTech and/or the marketing communications profession

*Provides strategic marketing support related to GPTC high school recruitment efforts

*Participates in the Statewide technical education Communications & Marketing Council. Stays abreast of professional practices through local, State, and national professional organizations.

*Serves as an alternate spokesperson for the district

COMPETENCIES

Subject Knowledge: Must possess a deep understanding of integrated marketing and communications strategic planning and implementation. Experience in community relations and media relations.
Experience in creative direction of layout and design; familiarity with use of social media for public relations and marketing. Working knowledge of computers. Competency with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Microsoft Office.

Communication Skills: Be an effective communicator. Possess excellent written and oral communications skills. Possess excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Professionalism: Demonstrate professionalism in all aspects of their work, including preparation, punctuality, attendance and commitment to ongoing professional development. Work collaboratively with colleagues and other stakeholders and be willing to take on leadership roles within the school and community.

Required Qualifications Required education and experience

Bachelor’s degree in public relations, advertising, journalism, marketing, communications, or related field

Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in public relations, advertising, journalism, marketing, communications, or related field
