Description

1. Provide leadership in the development and evaluation of the district’s special education services, including planning, compliance, monitoring, testing, personnel, and budgeting.

2. Work with school staff, parents and other professionals to resolve special education concerns and problems.

3. Ensure that district special education files are in compliance with all state and federal laws governing special education students.

4. Annually evaluate special education office personnel. Annually review teacher files and consult with building principal regarding special education teacher performance issues.

5. Assist principals and teachers in evaluation and discipline matters involving special education students.

6. Attend IEP and other special education meetings. Attend other meetings as requested by the board, superintendent or building principals.

7. Contract for special education services in accordance with all applicable laws and district policies and regulations.

8. Conduct training regarding special education issues as requested by the superintendent or building principals.

9. Prepare all necessary reports related to the district’s special education services, including grant documents, contracts, requisitions, district-wide reports and correspondence.

10. Review and submit necessary forms to the payroll clerk to ensure prompt and accurate payment to the special education secretary.

11.Annually review all special education policies and procedures and submit proposed changes to the superintendent by May 1st of each year.

12.Regularly participate in appropriate professional development opportunities.

13. Comply with all federal, state and local laws and board policies and procedures.

14. Utilize professional behavior in all school related interactions.

15. Perform all other tasks as requested by supervisor.

Required Qualifications Valid Oklahoma teaching certificate
Valid Oklahoma administrator's certificate - recommended
12 months of successful experience as a special education teacher - recommended
Thorough knowledge of federal/state laws re: special education

Essential Job Functions:

 
Provide leadership and supervision for instruction.

Assist in the oversight of the implementation of district curriculum goals, philosophy and policies within the area of authority.

Assist teachers in establishing meaningful goals, objectives and evaluation procedures related to educational enhancement.

Assist teachers in evaluating their methods of instruction/teaching skills and effectiveness of learner outcomes.

Ensure that teachers meet individual pupil needs and abilities and develop satisfactory growth in basic skills

Assist teachers in using community resources in their instructional program.

Assist teachers in providing a classroom atmosphere conducive to maximum learning.

Manage human resources and maintain productive relationship with staff.

Provide leadership for innovations and problem resolution.

Implement projects that resolve special problems.

Lead the school or office in economical use of materials and supplies.

Customer Service: Implements program to encourage staff to be customer focused. This includes empowering subordinates to resolve customer problems; interpret rules, procedures, and policies to assist customers; reduce the "red tape" that frustrates responsive decision making; and train and coach employees to provide better customer service.

Managing Information: Provides clear and concise staff reports for the Principal; communicates professionally before the public, staff, and fellow employees; automates procedures that assist in decision making; listens and responds to ideas and suggestions of co-workers and subordinates; keep his/her supervisor informed of critical concerns.

Planning and Organizing: Conducts short and long range curriculum and other site based planning; anticipates customer needs due to changes in growth, demographics, revenue, and technological environments; evaluate and amend previous year's forecasting as changes occur; participate with team members both within the District and the community to set and attain District goals and objectives; responds quickly to new issues and challenges.

Teamwork: Works with co-workers, subordinates, other administrators, and community leaders to provide service to the public; shares information, resources, and expertise to assist team members to accomplish organization/District objectives or goals; encourages cooperation among departments/divisions to solve problems.

Positive Leadership: Exercises administrative discretion fairly showing due respect, concern, and warmth for others an understanding of individual problems of both students and adults; shows support and enthusiasm for the school full consideration to majority and minority opinions.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
