Job Summary:
The Athletic Director is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the school's athletic programs in accordance with Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) regulations and district policies. This includes budgeting, hiring coaches, scheduling events, maintaining facilities, and promoting student-athlete development within a safe, inclusive, and educational environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Direct, coordinate, and supervise all interscholastic athletic programs across the school or district.
Ensure all athletic activities are compliant with OSSAA, district, and state guidelines.
Collaborate with school administrators to hire, evaluate, and mentor coaching staff.
Manage athletic budgets, including procurement of equipment, uniforms, transportation, and facility needs.
Schedule athletic competitions and coordinate transportation and supervision.
Maintain accurate records of eligibility, physicals, insurance, and academic compliance for all student-athletes.
Promote academic and personal development of student-athletes with emphasis on sportsmanship and integrity.
Serve as liaison between school, community, and athletics organizations.
Oversee maintenance, safety, and scheduling of athletic facilities and fields.
Develop and enforce policies related to student conduct, team rules, and sports ethics.
Facilitate professional development opportunities for coaching staff.
Organize and supervise athletic events, including staffing, crowd control, and emergency protocols.
Attend meetings and represent the school/district at local and state athletic associations as required.
Required Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Management, Education, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Certification: Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate and/or Administrative Certification.
Experience: Minimum 3–5 years coaching and/or athletic administration experience in a school setting.
Knowledge of: OSSAA rules, state/federal education policies, athletic health and safety protocols, budgeting, and facility management.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple teams, schedules, and priorities.
Conflict resolution and team-building abilities.
Technological proficiency with scheduling software and reporting tools.
